Room Makeover

One of my YW's mom wanted to  re-do her daughters room for Christmas. The inspiration for the room was a handout I had given her in class. (see here). So she asked if I could help. I painted the Audrey Hepburn mural and I ♥ how it turned out. it went from floor to ceiling. We put the quote around the top of the room as a border. I loved all the glitzy details her mom found for the room. What a lucky girl!
This was one of those projects that looks way harder than it is. I got an overhead projector and used a transperancy to view the image on the wall. Then Just lightly trace with a pencil, and paint. So easy!

Lesson #47 lm1 Encouraging the Development of Talents

I had given the girls their Christmas gift this week so I didn't want to spend any money on the Handout. I just looked around the house for something i could tie into the lesson. I found some powerades we had bought when they were on Sale at Macey's and this is what I came up with? At the beginning of class I had each girl cut out a snowflake. They were all unique just like real snowflakes. All of us are unique and have unique talents. Sometimes we can have similar talents as people just like all snow flakes are similar in that they are white, cold, wet, and fall from the sky.

I also had each girl write 2 talents each of the other girls in the class has.

the 6 steps to develop our talents
1- we must discover our talents. We should evaluate ourselves to find our strengths and abilities. Our Friends, and family can help us do this. We should also ask Heavenly Father to help us learn about our talents.
2-Be willing to spend the time and effort to develop the talent we are seeking
3-Have faith that Heavenly Father will help us, and have Faith in ourselves
4-Learn the skills necessary to develop our talents. (taking a class, asking a friend, read a book etc..)
5- Practice using our talent. Every talent takes effort and work to develop
6-Share our talents with others. using our talents is what helps them grow.

Canvas Boards

This is what I made for the YW in my class. We went up to the festival of trees for an activity and they loved this Saying.

These are super easy! Black and white pictures turn out best but Color pics also work. Just buy the Ink Jet T-shirt paper that you can run through your printer. (If you use text remember to reverse the image before printing so that it irons on corectly). If you are doing them in black adn white switch your printer settings to print with black ink only. It will work if you just print them normal but it will give them a slight green hue.

Then just Iron onto Canvas (Duck cloth is pretty much the same as Canvas and is sold by the yard at Walmart for cheaper than regular Canvas) Then staple gun onto a piece of wood and add your ribbon to hang it. Pretty dang easy! Add other embelishments, glitter, ribbon, nailheads, etc...

Santa Plate

My Cute Cousin (see here)cut the vinyl for me, and I bought the plate at walmart.
Step 1: Clean Plate
Step 2: Apply Vinyl to bottom of plate

Step 3: Apply a generous amount of Armour Etch Cream where you want something etched. (Armour Etch is available at most craft stores: Roberts, Joanne's, Michaels etc...
Step 4: Let cream sit for 5 minutes.

Step 5: Wash off plate with tap water
Step 6: Peel off Vinyl and wash entire Plate (Don't be nervous when you first peel off vinyl it looks like your image didn't work. The plate has to dry to see your design).
Step 7: Clean plate with glass cleaner

YW lesson #46 lm1 The purpose and Value of Education

"Some are inclined toward formal university training, and some are inclined more toward the practical vocational training. We feel that our people should receive that kind of training which is most consistent with their interests and talents. Whether it be in the professions, the arts, or the vocations; whether it be university or vocational training, we applaud and encourage it" (Spencer W. Kimball, in Conference Report, Oct. 1977, pp. 4-5; or Ensign, Nov. 1977, p.4)
they have these clipboards at the dollar store and Walmart. I mod podged cute scrapbook paper (with each girls favorite color) and tied a pencil with matching ribbon.

We talked about the importance of education in 3 areas of our lives: Church, School, & Home. We made it a class goal for the upcoming year that Every month we will set goals in each of the 3 areas we discussed. Each month we will follow-up with each other and I will print off the next month's calendar to put on their clipboard.
Examples they gave were:
School- To study for tests all week instead of the night before.
Home- Have their moms teach them how to make their favorite dinner, etc...
Church- to memorize scripture mastery's.
For a treat I brought sliced up apples with cinnamon.

Thanks Devin

One of my Best friends mother asked me to take some pictures at their grandpa's funeral. I'll be the first to admit I thought it might be a little awkward. But it was a funeral with military honors and I was so honored to be able to capture these pictures! I ♥ America and I ♥ the men & women who serve our country!

This is my Wonderful Friend. Thanks For EVERYTHING!

I love that you can see the gunfire, and the brass shells in the air.

Lesson #43 lm1 Righteous Living

Isaiah 57:20-21
"Troubled sea, when it cannot rest.... There is no peace....to the wicked"
I wanted to do a message in a bottle for their handout this week. I looked everywhere for cheap bottles but wasn't having much luck. I found a six pack of Orange Crush bottles. The bottles were really plain and the "orange crush" stickers were easy to remove. The six pack cost me about $3 so each bottle only came to $0.50.

I printed this quote on each of the girls favorite colors. Just added an initial sticker and a little ribbon to make them cute.
SIMPLE*EASY*CHEAP

Lesson #42 lm1 The Courage to Try

My mom called and told me she saw some really cute felt fortune cookies. I thought they would be perfect for this weeks lesson.
I found a pattern HERE.

They were REALLY easy and felt is so cheap! I took some of the discussion topics from the lesson and tried to make them sound fortune cookie-ish.
Each bag had 5 felt cookies, and 4 real fortune cookies. I ended up putting the quote inside the bag with the fortune cookies.

W family!

I went to high school with this beautiful couple. The kids were so funny while we were taking pictures. It ended up getting pretty chilly that night but the kids were little troopers!

YW lesson #41 lm1 The Ability to Succeed

I divided the lesson into 2 parts.

1st- We talked about our self image. If we have a poor self-image we fail to benefit from our own strengths and talents. I loved the quote by Eleanor Roosevelt "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent". Our attitude about ourselves helps us SUCCEED.

I read the story You Are Special by Max Lucado
2nd- Success
I used President Hinkleys Talk "How Can I Become the Woman of Whom I Dream?"

He talks about the 6 B's (Be Grateful, Be Smart, Be Clean, Be True, Be Humble, Be Prayerful) and if we follow these B's we will no Doubt have success.

I also used President Thomas S. Monsons talk "Formula for Success".
1- Fill your mind with Truth
2- Fill your life with Service
3- Fill your heart with love

I've found with my girls presentation is everything.

I just covered a post-it note stack with cute scrap paper and made a topper for the bag. Easy & Cheap but it looks cute.

Sewing itch.

I'm just a BEGINNER but I definitely have the sewing itch... It's been fun figuring things out and I love when I see my daughter wearing something I actually made! Quilt shops are my new guilty pleasure I could spend FOR-EV-ER in one. There are so many pretty/cute/funky fabrics!

An Oldie

I bought this kit at Pebbles in My Pocket a few years ago. Last year for Super Saturday we made some that were pretty similar.

Evening of Excellence Invite

We have our YW evening of Excellence this week. There isn't really a theme or anything so I kept the cards SIMPLE.

lil shoes

Sometimes I have a hard time finding the right shoe size & color for Brighty. I started looking on Etsy and found a ton of cute lil shoes. I decided to try to make some so I found a pattern and here's my first attempt.
